I have over 18 years experience in UI/UX design, information architecture, prototyping, front-end web design and development. I‘m passionate about all things web and tech.

For me design is not just about making things look “pretty”, it's a beautiful marriage of aesthetics, functionality and usability. I design so users can get from A to B without having to think too hard. No information overload. No confusing grouping of information. No over complex journeys.

It’s a Science

My knowledge in cognitive science has allowed me to form a greater understanding of the human thought process, how people take in information, process that information and in turn interact within their environment. Understanding this branch of psychology has been the key for me in designing the most user centric interfaces and providing an exceptional user experience.

Vendor Microsite

Design and Build. For well known brands such as Adobe and Quark. Adhering to a strict design guideline was essential and all work required sign-off from the vendor.

UI Design and Front-End Development - CU Product Finder

This product search tool was developed to assist the internal sales team to quickly and efficiently access product data in a clear visual format. With cross-sell features, live stock data and advanced filtering of product, the tool allowed the sales team to provide an enhanced service to their customers.

Believe it or not, the most difficult part of the Axure prototype was creating the rotation on the temperature dial. Anyone who uses Axure will know that there is no predefined component for rotation in Axure, the final result was achieved by using a combination of CSS3 animation affects and JavaScript triggers. Admittedly I had to hit the forums for help with this one :)

Information Architecture and UX Wireframes - CU Product Structures

This web based product administration software would be used by non technical internal users to input product data into the main product database. The accurate input of this data was critical to the business, so it was essential that the user journey was as clear simple and informative as possible.

Flex UI Development Support - CU Product Structures

Supporting the Development Team in producing UI screens and making sure that they adhered to the set out requirements of that in the UX wireframes. It was decided that this project would be developed using Flex, so it was essential that I familiarised myself with this framework.

Interface Enhancement Mock Ups - CU ResellerZone

Proposed enhancements to update a dated interface to one that was more clearer and user centric. The addition of an enhanced search feature that used modal windows for product information rather than traditional browser pop-ups were also suggested, along with the use of icons, quick preview button and related products feature.

Product Search Integration Mock Ups - Unlimited.com

Mock ups of new search feature to to be integrated to the corporate site. Multiple navigation options and layouts explored to see which would work best.

Education MIS Software UI - Bromcom

The designs are a little dated now but at the time we were cutting edge. I was doing some really challenging and exciting work at Bromcom. The interfaces I was designing and developing were being used by over 40,000 teachers across the UK.

Catalogue Automation

This project was initially out sourced to an external agency but unfortunately they were unable to deliver so I took it upon myself. By using a third party plug-in for InDesign, I was able to make a direct connection to the product database. Then by developing page templates and product components, I was then able to use logic based instructions to group, format and paginate the data automatically across page spreads. A process that took days could now be done in minutes.

Flash Game - Timetable Su Doku

Featured at the world's leading education technology, The Bett Show. The game was designed to promote the launch of a new drag and drop timetabling software for school administartors. The game also allowed the data capture of any potential leads.
